Game Summary: Notable Night

When Kelly Grotte returned to the GHL tonight off the DL, I thought that was going to be the story of the night, I thought nothing else was important.  And it is a big deal, however there were so many stories tonight, I don't know where to begin.
Let's go back to Kelly.  The two time MVP decided to try his back tonight, playing two games, and helping his team out with 3 points.  However, his team lost both games, which indicates he is not full strength.  Kelly's teams win.  But he looked good, considering it was his first games of the year.
The next biggest story is Zach Myron.  After not scoring a single goal in the last series, he came up big tonight, sniping Travis goal after goal and scoring two in the first game, three in the second, and three consecutive goals in the third game, scoring a total of 8 goals, accounting for over half of his teams 14 goals, which is nearly 57%.  He helped his team win all three games, which has not been done until tonight in the 07-08 GHL season.  Myron's 8 goals in a series breaks the Andrew Grotte record of 7 goals which he set only a series ago. He also had had an assist, making his point total 9, which breaks Nich Riveland's point total record of 8 set 2 series ago. "I have a lot of confidence in the accuracy of my wrist shot, and I feel that if I can get a clear unhurried shot off, the puck has a good chance of going in.  That and the fact that Travis was not his usual spectacular self tonight helped me out a lot."
It was true, Travis Peach arguably played his worst series ever losing all three games, and his temper, and not really making even one spectacular save.  No one would have lost respect for him if he would have just accepted the losses and moved on, however, in the 3rd game, he decided to quit, twice.  After he let in two consecutive goals on wristers by Zach Myron  that made the score 3-2, the raged goalie darted toward the exit of the rink, only to be begged to return by all the players and finish the game.  He reluctantly complied, only to leave immediately after another goal by Zach Myron, making sure to beat his equipment up first.  This time it was for good, and because of his actions, the GHL has decided to incur a one game suspension to Travis Peach.
The goalie, however, on the other side of the ice had an outstanding night.  Luke Schmitz had the best night of any goalie this year winning all three games, and giving up only an average of 2.3 goals a game.  He was close to a shutout in the second game, only letting in one goal to the returned veternan, Kelly Grotte.  "It's tough to win games when a goalie is playing so well, and when your goalie isn't having a good night." said Nich Riveland, who tried multiple times to put the puck past Luke, and was only successfull on a few occasions.
So, from the return of Kelly Grotte, to the offensive brilliance of Zach Myron, to the unusual imperfect netminding of Travis and his pitiable pose, to the remarkable night by Luke in goal, it was a notable night.

Noteables:
  • Zach Myron breaks 07-08 single series goal record with 8
  • Zach Myron breaks 07-08 single series points record with 9
  • Luke Shmitz breaks 07-08 single series record for a goalie with 3 wins and a 2.3 GAA
  • First time a team has had 3 wins in one night in 07-08
