Game Summary: Troubles and a Tie
 |
 |
The GHL made a nice transition
to 4 on 4 hockey tonight. The ice opened up a little and passes were actually hitting sticks, resulting in more shots
on goals and scoring chances. There were two players that really took advantage of this and made big stories tonight:
Travis Alvine and Andrew Grotte. In only his second series in the GHL, Travis Alvine scored 4 goals and added an assist
for a 5 point total, quite impressive for a rookie. Andrew Grotte had his best night of the year setting a 07-08 GHL
single series goal record with 7. "I found my rhythm tonight, and the puck found it's way to the back of the net...It's
as simple as that," said Andrew, who hasn't really had as much luck thus far in the year scoring goals. "I always take
the shots, they just haven't been going in...tonight, they did."
But the night was not without other
happenings, in fact there was a lot of drama in the 3rd game, namely, the Tim Spicer/Marcus Bergstrom incident. Marcus,
as usual, had been pestering the other team's players all night, you know, giving extra little shoves here and there, playing
the body, not the puck, and holding and grasping onto players. Well, Tim Spicer decided he had finally
had enough of this, and decided to award Marcus by slashing him in the back of the leg. The slash was a dandy,
as it afflicted Marcus's leg, and as if the stick were getting involved, the blade broke and went flying for effect.
Marcus let Tim know how he felt before the two were separated and given unsportsmanlike penalties.
This isn't the first time Marcus
has been slashed by a disgruntled player, but hopefully it will be the last. That is, hopefully he won't push the players
to that point, although a player probably never should let themselves get to that point. You can always solve it the
Nich Riveland way, try to fight Marcus. It doesn't always work, but at least it satisfies the inner self, not to mention
the fans.
Because of the 3rd game commotion, the
GHL was very tense, and decided to end the game in a draw, a tie 4-4 which didn't leave a very good taste in anyone's mouth.
But, there'll be more nights, so all we can do is learn from it.
