Game Summary: Old Style GHL

If anyone had any questions about whether or not the League was going soft, the GHL surely answered this question by playing in frigid cold weather tonight. The temperature was cold; the players were hot.
The 07-08 GHL rookie prospect Travis Alvine showed up for the 3rd series, and so did 3 other Minor League prospects from Mayville and UND (Schumacher, Shirek, and Kvidt).  Alvine played one game scoring a goal and playing concrete defense helping his team to a 5-4 win. Schumacher looked to be the best forward out of the batch, scoring an amazing amount of goals, 5, in his first ever GHL appearance. "How does it feel to score 2 goals in your first GHL game and still come short of winning by one goal," Schumacher was asked. He replied, "Well, it's just got to be a better all around team effort.  We'll keep working hard and see what happens next game."  They won the next one, Schumacher scoring two more goals.  Kvidt, who currently catches for UND, however, proved himself to be a utility player, suiting up in goal for a game and leading his team to a 5-4 win.  Shirek added an assist and a snipe of a goal.
The 06-07 rookie of the year also had his best night of the young 07-08 GHL season.  Matt West scored 4 goals on the night, and created countless scoring opportunities.
Nich Riveland opened the floodgates scoring 6 goals and adding 2 assists, including a game winner. "I don't know how it happened, I've never seen myself as a goal scorer, and I've never really find those goals, I just got puck luck tonight." said Nich, "Plus, I had guys like Zach Myron and Andrew Grotte and even Alvine feeding me beautifully all night."  Zach had 4 assists.
The 2nd and 3rd games were played 4 on 4, rather than 5 on 5, and it really made a huge difference.  The 4 on 4 really opened things up.  It reminded one of the old GHL.  Plays actually developed, and it was back and forth hockey...transitional hockey.  It also felt like old style GHL because or the fighting.  The fun of fighting returned tonight as Jason stirred up with Nich, Zach Myron, and his big brother, Andrew.  Also, there was a big brawl at the end of the game.  The fun fights left everyone with a big grin on their face as they left the rink to eat a luncheon following the game.  Wonderful orderves were served by Joni Grotte.

Commissioner Counsel: Once again, the league got a late start, due to the lack of goalies or goalies not being ready. Let's try to improve upon that.

Games will be played 4 on 4 for a trial period.

Other Notes: Brian Nybo plays first of the year.
