Black did not lack experience, or defense.  WIth Hoff, Alvine, and Martin on the their roster, they were able to easily maneuver to a 2-1 series win.  Alvine produce 4 goals and handed out an assist in his first game back to the GHL since winning the 07-08 Rookie of the Year Trophy.  "It was nice to be back, but also to find a way to contribut out there."  Hoff also had an impressive night, scoring in all three games.  Andrew perhaps had the best single game, however, in the 3rd game which would decide the series when he scored the first, fourth, and fifth to win the game and series for GHL Black.  Brent Larson stayed unusually quiet picking up a lone assist on the night.

Zack Kvidt played in goal as a substitute for Travis Peach, who was busy dealing with domestic affairs.  Kvidt played well, but was only able to nab 1 out of the three games.  Meanwhile, Zach Riveland was able to take a couple of wins, hopefully en route to getting back to .500 in the W/L department.  He also got the his and the GHL's first shutout of the year.

Cold weather looks to delay the GHL a bit: it may be a while before the GHL can meet again, which seems to be a common theme in the GHL 09 Season.

GHL HISTORY:  The bitter cold has had a major influence on the density of games this season: the 09 GHL season is far behind schedule, or at least what has been routine in the past..  Last year, in the 07-08 GHL season, the ninth series was played on January 4th, which means we are almost 18 days late this year.  By the 22nd of January last year, we had already played 12 series and 39 games.  Up to the same date, we have now played 9 series, 2 of which have been statless which comes to a total of 7 statistical series and 22 statistical games: 5 series and 17 games behind the 07-08 season.

STAT RECAP:  All stats have been updated.  GHL 09 rising stars Jason Grotte and Jake Martin currently lead in 6 statistical categories Jake Martin capturing first place in FIVE statistical categories.  Jason is very close behind Jake in several categories.  It's a great battle right now between the two grinders.  Travis Peach has also returned to his glory days as he leads all goalies in the important categories.  For more, check out 08-09 Stat Leaders or 2008-2009 Statistics.
