Chris Swenson Memorial Trophy

The Chris Swenson Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct throughout the season. The winner is selected in a poll of the Grotte Hockey League Players' Association at the end of the regular season.

The Chris Swenson Memorial Trophy was presented by the GHL Player's Association in 2007 to commemorate the late Chris Swenson, a former GHL player, who exhibited in his one season in the GHL the highest standards of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct, before retiring.

Kelly Grotte all smiles even after an unfortunate early back injury and a considerably tough year.

Kelly Grotte has kept everything under control for the last six years in the Grotte Hockey League.  It is his job to supervise the players and assess the proper penalties...not an easy job.  And through all this, Kelly, in this position, has to keep his own cool and exemplify good sportsmanship in order to be a good example to the rest of the league.  On top of all this, Kelly still has his commissioner duties.  Kelly was not the MVP this year point wise, but he was a great asset to any team he played for moral-wise and showed the highest standard of sportsmanship according to the GHLPA. He still managed to hold on to a #6 spot in the GHL Overall Rankings playing in 53 games in which he amassed 46 points.  The former MVP also played goalie this year earning two shutouts.

2007 Winner

Wayne Riveland was not found arguing calls, getting in fights, or cheap shotting, rather, he was the first on the scene to break up a fight, and help someone to their feet.  Plus, he was close to winning the Tuffy Trophy, which awards a player for their hard work ethic.  For these things, Wayne won this trophy.
