In what may have been the last games
of the year due to the increasing temperatures of March, the ice was soft and therefore cut up by the players very easily.
The rink became a battle ground where you didn't know: 1. where and how the puck would end up, 2.if you were even capable
of skating, 3.if you could shoot the puck through all the wet snow, or 4.if it was even worth playing hockey. The pace
of the games were slow, and it was one of those nights where any goal was a good goal. There were three people that
benefitted from the conditions. Two were the goalies, and the other would be Kelly Grotte. I think if Kelly had his
choice, he would love to play on soft ice all the time. I take that back. It would probably end up being too much work
trying to skate through that stuff all the time. Anyway, the point is that the rink conditions favored Kelly.
The teams were for the first game: the Shmucks: Kelly, Jason, Andrew, Brent, and Collin with Travis in the net,
and the Shnerts: Zach M., Wayne, Nich, Matt West, and Adam Monson along with Luke at goal. The Shmucks defeated the
Shnerts in game one by a comfortable margin. Goalies were traded after game one. In Game 2, the Shmucks once again put
the pressure on early and came out with a victory, despite a late Shnerts charge. The final score was 5-3. Well the Shmucks
won the series, but the goalies each had a win. The tie, we decided, should be broken using a shootout format.
The Shmucks faced Travis, and the Shnerts faced Luke. Each player from both teams shot once and when it was all said
and done, Travis defeated Luke 3-0. Or should I say 0-3. Let's just say Travis allowed no goals, while Luke allowed 3.
Other Notes: Travis replaces goalie stick with a brand
new TPS.
Travis
pays repercussions by donating 3 blue pucks.
Brent Larson
scores last goal of the last game.
