Will Rookie John Ryan be the Next GHL Poster Boy?

Many GHL experts believe so, and others have no doubt. Why?  He's a young exuberant player full of promise and potential entering his rookie season in the GHL.  Although there has been allegations that the youngster has been considerably cocky coming into his first GHL season, there is good reason.  His biggest claim to ghl fame is that he claims that he gets inside the head of GHL All Star Brent Larson, who we all know won rookie of the year in the 05-06 season and was 2nd on the GHL Player Rankings with the most goals, the most MVPoints and the best +/- last year.   John has let certain members of the GHLPA know that one of his first-season intentions is to outscore Brent.  That seems a lofty goal, but Ryan has expressed that he sets the bar high, because he knows it's got a lot to do with mentally being prepared.  He has also forewarned the league of his dangling and backhand abilities.  But still, it is not just these claims that make him a prime canidate for 08-09 GHL Poster Boy;  It's his charming and humorous...and confident personality off the ice.  "Everybody loves Johny Boy, and I think we'll show him that love the first night on the GHL rink if you know what I mean."  relayed a GHL player that wanted to remain anonymous. - GHL Online Writer Ray Zijab

GHL Poster Boy?

Great cover story by Ray Zijab, but it's disappointing to have a roommate call you out through the media rather than in person. I think J-Dog needs a lesson in realistic goal-setting too. He has a better chance of outgrowing Zach Myron in a one week beard-off than getting in my head or outscoring me this season. Sorry John, we were all thinking it, I just said it. That being said, he is very charming and humorous, and he can be my poster boy any day of the week.

09 Rink Construction

It's been eight years since the GHL formed and began its wonderful journey that continues even today.  The 09 season is no doubtedly less than a month away with the weather getting frigid and the initiation of the rink construction.

This year presents the GHL nation with new rink construction management.  The rink has long been primarily built by members of the GHLPA Andrew Grotte and Nich Riveland with great help from Jason Grotte, Zach Myron, and Kelly Grotte, as well as others.   Jumping onboard this year will be Zach Riveland, Jamyn Riveland, and Tytus Myron.

Stepping down are GHLPA members Andrew and Nich.  So what does this mean for the 09 GHL Rink?  It's hard to say.

Andrew confided to the GHL "They'll do a fine job."  It is well known, though, that the former rink manager prefers perfection and practicality.  Nich was less optimistic of the new construction team, "I don't know, it's their first year on the job and I doubt they know the ins and outs of the GHL rink."

Both Andrew's and Nich's concerns were temporarily put to rest when they made a visit on construction day one.  "They seemed to be doing an adequate job," relayed Nich to Andrew after observing the progress.  As the two veteran onlookers further surveyed, they began to notice some differences in procedures of assembly, and minor rink changes, but were still satisfied.

Nich and Andrew offered a few trivial tips to the team but generally stayed uninvolved and officially passed on the job to the younger members of the GHLPA.  "There's a lot of things you learn about building the GHL rink through the years that you can store in your memory bank for the next year that generally makes things run smoother and more efficiently, as well as giving you a better overall product.  These guys are still learning." agreed Andrew and Nich about the team.

The 09 team already learned one such lesson the hard way.  After a hard day's work, two sides and an end were erected.  The next morning, one whole side had been unerected by the wind.  Lesson One: Secure the boards because the wind in North Dakota is perpetual and prevalent.  The boys had forgot this little part of their plan and they paid.

They will have to reassemble the east side and have had to deal with the commissioner's conniption fit.  Kelly Grotte said of the booboo, "This kind of thing is almost inexcusable. I don't care if it's their first year on the job. I mean, we can't hold our breath hoping that the breath of North Dakota won't knock over the rink!"

The same mistake, however, was also made by the previous rink team  several years ago when they didn't tie down the boards well enough.  There are also some major rink changes in mind this year. The team has not yet incorporated a sin bin and does not currently have it in their plans.

The one lingering question remains, though.  What will the GHL improve be this year?  Or will it be the first year without improvement, rink-wise?  One thing is sure: it's a new era in the GHL, one with new rink management, new players, website improvement, media, accumulated history and prestige, and high expectations.

Commssioner Kelly Grotte only hopes that all of this is all for the good of the league.

Collin Grotte: 07-08 GHL's Most Improved Player
Dave Swatlowski
Swat, as they call him, recently joined the GHL Farm Team and has distinguished himself from others by his strive and zeal on the ice.  There's no doubt that he plays with a lot of heart and there has been much speculation that he will get the chance in the GHL due to his scintilating efforts.
John Ryan
Some know him as Johnny Boy.  Others know him as "Bodangles".   Why? He is a shifty,  flashy sort of player who has the dekes, moves, and maneuvers that will cross the defense's eyes and consequently cross the puck over the goal line.

Cameron Swenson
The tough guy from Lakota doesn't have the nickname "Tarzan" out of tomfoolery. Watch for him to pulverize a few guys in the GHL.  The question with this guy is: will he be able to make a smooth transition from hardcore weightlifing to the explicit hockey of the GHL?

Kristofor Paulson
Kris has slowly been moving up the ranks in the hockey world for an extremely long time, and now its his time to dazzle on the ghl scene.

Paul Ralston
Paul Ralston has disappointed the GHL for several years due to the fact he has not been able to play impressively enough in minors for the GHL to even give him a chance.  Paul will need to capitalize on his chance in the GHL if given.

The 2008-2009 season looks to be almost as promising as last year as far as the rookie class is concerned.
Erik Ole
The stout defenseman is sure to be a force in the GHL. The 21 year old from Minnesota is both promising in his ability to play and his phenomenal ice vision.
