It was one of those memorable GHL series, much thanks to a bitter brawl between teammates goaltender
Travis Peach and Jake Martin. Reportedly, Travis was barking at his defense, and it eventually got the better of defenseman
Jake Martin. He got fed up. After letting Travis knew how he felt in a verbal manner. Travis let Jake know how
he felt in a physical manner by swatting the back of Jake's leg with the goalie stick. Some thought he was
just trying to find a new way to break a stick...other's specualated that he didn't care for Jake's comments. Jake returned
fire with a slash of his own on Peach and the GHL historical brawl began. The two exchanged multiple furious punches
before they both ended up on the ice and the debacle was broken up by other players.
"It was definitely a top 5 GHL fight," reported commissioner Kelly Grotte. I was on the bench
at the time, and Wayne and I kept hoping the fight would simmer, or someone would break it up, but the league respected the
frustration release and let the two tango. It just kept going. I guess it's just a good thing no one was injured
and the two settled their differences so we could resume the good ol game of hockey."
It was not the first time this year that Travis gave it a go in the fighting scene. Remember
his fight against GHL forward Nich Riveland earlier in the season. "He's getting to be a regular rocky out there," laughed
Nich Riveland after obseriving Peach's second fight, "although I'd still put my money on Rocky. What's weird is that Travis
has not ever been involved in a GHL fight previous to this year, I think he's showing some spark and strive again out
there. He wants to play good and have good results and he'll do it at any cost this year, even if it means fighting
his own teammate. Better that than leaving games or series in frustration, and I think that fact could be rewarding
at the end of the season."
Jake Martin also exercised exuberance which has been characteristic of the charismatic defenseman
all year. He has shown to the GHL a true power defenseman who will get into your head and into your net, with a talent
supported desire to get the win, even if it means firing up your own goalie. When asked about the fight, Jake replied
"It's simple, he apparently didn't like my defense, I didn't like his attitude. We just had to work things out and I
think things worked out."
They certainly did as the league got 4 more games in tonight, with hight scoring from rookie Dave
Swatlowski, Nich Riveland, and Jason Grotte.
